The story behind the piece

Sweater Vests for Guinea Pigs (Yes, Really)

A guinea pig in a tiny button-up vest might be the cutest thing on the internet. We crochet them to fit, and we can add a monogram.

Guinea pigs aren't from Guinea, and they aren't pigs. They're rodents first domesticated thousands of years ago in the Andes of South America, and nobody is quite sure how they got their English name. What everyone agrees on is that they're charming: they chatter, they squeak, and when they're happy they "popcorn," leaping straight up in the air.

They also look absolutely adorable in a sweater vest.

Tiny vests, crocheted by hand

Each vest is crocheted by hand and measures about 5 inches over the back. Adjustable loops button up underneath, so you can get a snug, comfortable fit instead of guessing at a size.

Choose your look:

  • Pastel pink and blue, the sweetest pick for photos
  • Pastel blue with orange buttons
  • Red or green, perfect for holiday cards, with thicker yarn that's especially nice for hairless guinea pigs, the "skinny pigs" who appreciate a little extra warmth

If a color is sold out, we'll make one to order. We can even crochet a monogram letter onto the vest for a small extra charge. Just message us.

Dressing tips from our pet-loving family

  • Introduce the vest slowly, with treats, and let your pet sniff it first
  • Keep sessions short: photos, holiday visits, a little warmth on a chilly day
  • Always supervise while your pet is dressed, and take the vest off for naps and cage time
  • Not just for guinea pigs: other small pets of a similar size can wear them too

The holiday card of the year

Nothing beats a guinea pig in a red sweater vest next to the tree. It's also a perfect gift for the guinea pig parent in your life, and they'll send you the photos. We'd love to see them too.
