How to request a custom sign, painted item or figurine
A few good measurements and a clear description help turn a personal idea into a practical quote. Here is what to send us.
You do not need to be a designer to request a custom piece. You do need to tell the maker what would make the finished result feel right. The Crafty Cady Chicks Creation Studio collects those details in one place, whether your idea is a spray-painted sign, a painted decorative item, an original figurine or a practical 3D print.
Our promise starts with a conversation about feasibility. Buy what you can dream is an invitation to bring an idea, not a guarantee that every material, deadline or design will be possible. A clear brief helps us identify the next questions and prepare a useful quote.
Start with the use, not just the shape
Explain who the piece is for and where it will go. A small shelf figurine, a sign viewed across a room and a display that gets packed for events have different needs. Tell us whether the item will be indoors, outside, handled often or attached to something else.
If the idea is a gift, explain the detail that makes it personal: a favorite color, an original character, a meaningful phrase or the dimensions of a special display space. You do not need to share a long personal history; a few relevant specifics usually say more.
For a painted sign, make the lettering exact
- Copy the words exactly, including spelling, dates and capitalization.
- Describe the lettering style and how prominent the words should be.
- Give the width and height, then depth or thickness if you know it.
- Include background and lettering colors, plus matte, satin or gloss preferences if you have them.
- Explain how it will hang or stand, and whether it is intended for outdoor use.
The surface field is a good place to describe wood, MDF, another paintable material or an item you already own. If you are unsure which surface fits your idea, choose “Please recommend.” Do not send an existing item before we agree to accept it and discuss handling and shipping.
For a custom figurine, describe the silhouette and details
Begin with the overall height, width and depth. Then describe the pose, expression, clothing or surface details, accessories and base. Identify which features must stay and which can be simplified. A small accessory may need to be enlarged or attached differently to make a practical print.
The form accepts millimeters or inches. For 3D prints, it compares the outer dimensions against the A1 mini and Prusa MK3/MK4 build volumes. Allow rotation if the orientation can change. An oversize result means a multipiece design review, not an automatic rejection or approval.
Use the paint/finish preference to request a base-material finish, single-color paint or multicolor painted details. Put exact colors and any important contrast in the finish notes. A written color description and a reference link are helpful; the final finish needs agreement during the quote process.
A sample brief to adapt
Here is an illustrative sign request, not a completed customer project: “A 16-inch-wide by 8-inch-high indoor sign reading THE READING NOOK in cream lettering on a muted blue background. I would like rounded corners, a matte appearance and two hanging holes. Please recommend the surface and thickness.”
For a figurine, a useful brief could describe an original mushroom character with a cheerful expression, a round base and a finished height of about four inches. Add width and depth, which details should be painted, and the intended display location. The more clearly you separate essential details from preferences, the easier it is to discuss alternatives.
Budget and timing help shape the conversation
Include your quantity, a budget range if you have one and the date you hope to receive the piece. Distinguish a firm event date from a preference. Custom design and painting take different amounts of work, so a requested date is not a confirmed delivery date.
For gifts and small-business displays, The Great Lakes Gleaner’s West Michigan custom gift planning article offers more ways to narrow down the idea. Our creation ideas guide explains the studio’s different request options.
Common quote questions
Can I leave a measurement blank?
Signs and painted items need width and height; unknown depth or thickness is optional. Figurines and other 3D prints need all three dimensions for the printer-size estimate. Approximate measurements are welcome for a quote, but important fits must be checked before production.
Does submitting the form place an order?
No. Your request is saved for the shop and emailed to its owner. We review it, follow up and discuss pricing. No payment is taken by the quote form.
What contact details are required?
A name, email, U.S. phone number and U.S. address are required. Requests are limited to U.S. residents. Gun parts and firearm components are not accepted.
