Junk Journal Supplies: Scrap Packs Full of Treasure

A junk journal is built from the things other people throw away: ticket stubs, old book pages, ribbon ends. Our scrap packs give you a head start on the treasure.

A junk journal is a book made from what most people would call junk: old book pages, envelopes, receipts, ticket stubs, tea bag tags, lace from a worn-out dress. Crafters call these bits ephemera, from a Greek word meaning "lasting a day," because they were never meant to be kept. A junk journal keeps them anyway, and turns them into something beautiful.

It's part diary, part collage and part treasure hunt, and there are no rules.

Why start with a scrap pack

The magic of junk journaling is variety, but collecting enough papers, textures and trims takes years and a lot of drawers. A scrap pack gives you a curated mix in one envelope, so you can start your first spread today.

Our packs typically include:

  • Cardstock in patterns, solids and glitter paper
  • Book pages and music sheets for that vintage, written-on look
  • Ribbons and twine in different colors and textures
  • Buttons, flowers and brads in assorted shapes and sizes
  • Lacy papers for a delicate touch
  • In some packs, a vintage-look envelope to store everything, which also makes a great journal pocket

Pick a mood

  • Vintage: six 6x6 solid papers, music sheets on craft paper, ribbons, tiny buttons and brads
  • Nature-inspired, for outdoorsy, botanical spreads
  • Spring vibes and summer packs, bright and cheerful
  • Blue, with ribbon and book pages in shades of blue
  • Christmas: cardstock, ribbon and washi tape for holiday spreads

Extras for your journal

  • Tags, for journaling spots, pockets and bookmarks
  • Paper flower sets, for dimension on the page or on the table
  • A gummy bear charm dangle to hang from the spine of your journal or planner

A first spread, step by step

  1. Pick two papers that contrast, one patterned and one plain, and layer them a little off-center.
  2. Tuck a tag or envelope into the layout as a pocket for notes.
  3. Add one focal piece, like a die cut, a photo or a quote.
  4. Finish with ribbon, a button or a few stitches.
  5. Write something, even one line.

Smash books and more

The same packs work for smash books, travel journals, card making and scrapbook pages. They also make a thoughtful gift for a teen starting a journal or a friend who loves paper. For focal pieces, browse our die cuts and embellishments. For complete pages, see our premade layouts.
